PBADL POW Paraiso proves worth for Wangs-Letran

Brent Paraiso’s resume already speaks for itself.

A winner in every level he’s played in, the 6-foot-2 guard has personified the championship poise for Wangs Basketball @26-Letran as it wades through the early goings of the 2022 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

The Knights sure knew they could count on Paraiso when push came to shove.

Just take their Friday game against Marinerong Pilipino. With Wangs-Letran losing grip of a 17-point lead, Paraiso took it upon himself to save the Muralla squad in the clutch, scoring six of its final eight points to secure the 70-64 victory.

It capped off his impressive statline of 14 points, five rebounds, and two assists as he tucked the Skippers to sleep while also keeping the Knights undefeated through three games to take the early lead in the conference.

“Brent is a champion player and at the same time, a veteran for us. Hindi naman nakakagulat na nagre-rely talaga kami sa kanya,” said assistant coach Rensy Bajar of Paraiso, with the team still missing the likes of Fran Yu and Rhenz Abando.

Couple that with his consistent numbers of 12 points, five boards, and four dimes in Wangs-Letran’s 89-84 escape of AMA Online on Tuesday, and it was only right he claimed the Cignal Play-PBA Press Corps D-League Player of the Week award for the period of July 11 to 16.

He is the second Knight to win the honor, after Louie Sangalang, as the group, made up of sportswriters and editors covering the beat, hands out the weekly honor in celebration of the developmental league’s 10th season.

Paraiso bested Adalem Construction-St. Clare’s John Rojas, EcoOil-La Salle’s Penny Estacio, and Marinerong Pilipino’s Juan Gomez de Liano, who registered the ninth triple-double in PBA D-League history, for the weekly plum.
