PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial admitted that there shouldn’t have been a foul called against Paolo Taha late in NorthPort’s match versus Rain or Shine Sunday.
The athletic guard was whistled for a foul on Rey Nambatac with 1.3 seconds left to play, paving the way for the sophomore to troop to the line for two shots.
Nambatac made both of his charities and the Elasto Painters won, 70-68, to collect their third win in as many games in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.
That call clearly didn’t sit well with NorthPort head coach Pido Jarencio, who was visibly fuming on the court contesting such.
That call has also become a hot topic online, with netizens divided whether or not there was a foul.
But then, the Commissioner himself has said that there wasn’t.
“Mali ang referee doon,” Marcial told Lyn Olavario of TV5.
Marcial said that he will hold referee Sherwin Pineda accountable for the wrong call, which was definitely costly for NorthPort as it sank to 0-3.
“May malaki akong sanction gagawin doon. Nagalit din ako doon sa tawag na ‘yun.”
