The PBA has suspended and fined Calvin Abueva for his actions during the Philippine Cup match between Magnolia and Ginebra last Sunday.
In an announcement Tuesday, the league slapped the 33-year-old with a one-game ban plus a 10,000-peso fine for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Abueva had already been warned for unsportsmanlike conduct the previous season, and that a similar offense would result in a suspension.
The ‘Beast’ once again became a hot topic on social media when he left the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay shortly after being ejected early in the fourth quarter of the Manila Clasico for incurring his second technical foul of the game.
And while on his way out of the dugout, the reigning BPC was heard shouting “Japan, Japan,” apparently out of frustration with what had happened to him in the match which the Hotshots eventually won by way of an 89-84 decision.
Abueva even took to Instagram and challenged the PBA to review the tape and see what he did wrong, but the post has since been deleted.
With the sanction, the Kapampangan star won’t be able to play in the Hotshots’ duel with former team Phoenix Super LPG on Friday also at MoA Arena.
Abueva has been far from the usual in their last two games. He averaged just 6.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in their meetings with San Miguel and Ginebra.
That, after norming 16.0 markers and 12.3 boards in their first three games, including a 23-point, 12-rebound outing versus NorthPort last Wednesday.
