Johnny Abarrientos has been fined by the PBA for the obscene gesture he directed towards Jamaal Franklin late in the PBA Governors’ Cup duel between Magnolia and Converge Sunday night.
Commissioner Willie Marcial told Tiebreaker Times Monday that the Hotshots assistant coach will have to pay Php 10,000 for flipping off FiberXers import Jamaal Franklin approaching the final minute of the tight encounter.
The debuting Magnolia lost, 111-109, and Converge went on to capture sole leadership of the team standings with a pristine 3-0 record.
Abarrientos was caught on camera flashing the finger at Franklin following the latter’s triple that stretched his team’s lead to 111-105 with 1:05 left.
The cage legend would admit doing so as the ex-NBA cager’s alleged taunt telling the Hotshots to ‘sit down’ didn’t sit well with him.
“Nang-aalaska lang siya. Eh feeling niya, winning shot ‘yung tinira niya eh, tapos pinapaupo niya kami,” said Abarrientos.
The 52-year-old, though, was ‘very apologetic,’ according to Marcial.
