TNT got one of the few Filipino players to play in the G League.
Mikey Williams was the fourth overall pick in the 2021 PBA Draft, Sunday afternoon.
This pick came a long way before it landed in the Tropang Giga’s lap.
Blackwater originally owned the pick before sending it to NLEX. Then last Thurday, the Road Warriors sent the pick to the Tropang Giga in a three-team trade with the Bossing.
Williams was welcomed to the team by TNT governor Ricky Vargas, new head coach Chot Reyes, and team captain Jayson Cast
The 6-foot-2 combo guard can bring instant impact to TNT, which is reeling from the loss of Bobby Ray Parks, Jr.
Williams first played three years with Division I school University of San Francisco. He later moved to another D1 program in Cal State Fullerton. During his five-year collegiate career, he averaged 12.51 points, 3.02 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.
After going undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft, Williams went to Sioux Fall in the G League in 2014 and Canton from 2016-18.
Williams also played in the ASEAN Basketball League, serving as an import for Saigon during the league’s eighth season.
Needing to get his papers done, Williams played for GenSan in the MPBL, averaging 15.9 points, 6.6 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 18 games played.
Williams was also part of the Mighty Sports team that won the 2019 Jones Cup and 2020 Dubai Invitationals.
