PBA Draft: Calvin Oftana finds home in NLEX

Calvin Oftana remains in the MVP group’s camp.

The San Beda product was the third overall pick in the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft by NLEX, Sunday afternoon.

NLEX received the pick as part of the Poy Erram trade back in 2020.

Road Warriors governor Rod Franco, head coach Yeng Guiao, and team captain Kevin Alas were at the TV5 Media Center to welcome the do-it-all forward.

Coming out of two years in Asian College, Oftana moved to San Beda in NCAA Season 92.

His first three years in college saw him play back-up to Javee Mocon, though.

Once Mocon ended his collegiate career, the 6-foot-6 forward took the cudgels for the Red Lions. He averaged 15.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 blocks to win the NCAA Season 95 Most Valuable Player plum.

Oftana ended his collegiate career with norms of 5.75 points, 3.87 rebounds, 0.95 assists, and 0.52 blocks in 77 games played.

The native of Dumaguete City was also part of Gilas’ team during the Manama window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
