Yeng Guiao’s wish to have more days of practices for Gilas Pilipinas has been heard by the PBA Board of Governors.
The board is set to hold their monthly meeting next Friday, and one of the things that might be discussed is the fiery head coach’s proposal to add two more days of practice for the national team.
Guiao on Thursday admitted that having just twice-a-week sessions is not enough especially for a squad that has such a huge responsibility of representing the Philippines in the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China this August.
The main reason behind such is that the players have not fully digested Guiao’s system yet, meaning that the progress of the team has not really been that significant even if they have been practicing for about five weeks now.
“We’re going to need more than twice-a- week to be able to make the players run the system by heart and instinctively because that requires a lot of repetition and that requires a lot of time,” said Guiao in an interview Thursday.
“Medyo nafi-feel na yung urgency na we need to get in more than twice-a-week already,” he furthered.
“Masyadong madalang yung twice-a-week for such a big responsibility of representing the country sa World Cup.”
Gilas is set to leave for Spain early August but will not bring with them players from clubs that have teams still alive in the PBA playoffs.
