To spice up its return, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will take on a different approach for its All-Star festivities on March 9-12 in Passi, Iloilo.
From the vaunted North versus South, the league will adopt the same format the NBA has been using since 2018 for its own midseason spectacle.
Commissioner Willie Marcial said that the fans will vote for 24 players for the All-Star Game, with the top two vote-getters to be named captains of each side.
“Mamimili sila ng 24 — kahit anong posisyon,” he told reporters Sunday.
The captains will then choose from the 24 players voted on by the fans through a drafting process, the date of which will be announced soon.
Coaches for both All-Star teams will be chosen by the fans as well.
Rookies, sophomores, and juniors will still be involved in the festivities making their way back into the league calendar after three years due to COVID-19.
Skills challenges such as the Obstacle Challenge, the Slam Dunk Contest, and the Three-Point Shootout are all of course part of the ASW.
To be determined, still, will be the ASG format, whether the PBA plays the usual four-quarter match or the Elam ending, according to Marcial.
Voting starts on Wednesday, both online and in-venue.
