Over the past few years, Gilas Pilipinas Women program director Patrick Aquino has made sure to do his homework, finding Filipinas abroad who could be the future of the national team.
This time around, he was able to find a gem in Massachusetts.
Aquino was able to talk to 6-foot-5, 16-year-old Jenesis Perin, enlisting her to join the national team.
Perin’s mother is Filipina. She currently studies at Lawrence Academy.
Perin, though, has yet to get her Philippine visa. And it is the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas’ top priority in the coming months.
“I invited her for the under-seventeen and under-eighteen 3×3 tournaments this year, so the federation will get her a Philippine passport ASAP,” said Aquino.
The Under-17 Asia Cup takes place from June 4 to 7 in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
Last year, Aquino was able to recruit Fil-fors Camille Clarin and Ella Fajardo to join the national team as well.
