Filipino super flyweight Aston Palicte (20-2, 17KO) aims to bounce back from his recent loss as he takes on a familiar foe this Friday for J.S. Promotion’s Friday Fight Night!, happening at the Jurado Hall in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Palicte will once again face Vergilio Silvano (21-6-1, 12KO) in an almost-rematch; this time for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific Junior Bantamweight title. The two previously fought almost eight months ago for the vacant WBO Oriental Super Flyweight belt, which the Soong Stable standout won via unanimous decision.
But unlike the Bago City, Negros Occidental-born Palicte, Silvano is coming off a victory of his own, last March in his hometown.
Also in the card are Lolito Sonsona (18-1-4, 8KO), Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super lightweight champ Al Rivera (15-2, 13KO), and former amateur standout and Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga. Barriga will be making his much-awaited pro debut.
Lolito, cousin of former WBO Super Flyweight titleholder Marvin Sonsona, will be up against Elorde Boxing Stable’s John Rey Lagutiman (4-3-1, 1KO), while IBF number 13-ranked Rivera will duke it out against journeyman Richard Olisa (23-30-2, 12KO) in a non-title bout.
On the other hand, Barriga, who competed in the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships and 2012 London Olympics, is set to face Jan-Jan Santos (1-6-1) of Eraje Stable in General Santos City.
Friday Fight Night! is presented by J.S. Promotions in partnership with the Philippine Marines. The event is dedicated to the honor of Brigadier General Jose Johriel M. Cebabre, AFP.
