ONIC PH pulled off a 2-1 reverse sweep over RSG PH to bolster its bid of capturing the number one spot in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League-Philippines Season Eight regular season, Saturday night.
The win helped ONIC PH improve its standing to 27 points – a point behind the league-leading Blacklist International – off a 9-4 win-loss standing.
ONIC PH locked down Christian “Iy4knu” Manaog early in Game Three to take a slight advantage heading to the mid-game. RSG PH tried to fight back, but it was not enough as a well-farmed Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol (Hayabusa) paved the way for ONIC PH to close out the series.
Kairi was named the SMART 5G MVP with nine kills, a death, and four assists in the 14:13-minute Game Three.
“Habang wala siya [coach Yeb] nag tutulunga kami ng team kung paano mag da-draft this week, kung paano kami lalakas,” said team captain Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy.
RSG PH took out a disorganized ONIC PH in Game One – dissecting the second-ranked squad in the opener to seal their spot in the playoffs. EJ “Heath” Esperenza’s Ruby, who tallied 10 assists along with a death in the 15-4 win, was named the SMART 5G MVP in the 21:38-minute match.
With RSG PH lacking the damage needed, ONIC PH pounced on the situation and took Game Two on the back of Kairi’s Hayabusa. He finished with a perfect 7-0-4 KDA line in the 13-10 Game Two victory which lasted for 17 minutes and 37 seconds.
The Game One win by RSG PH eliminated reigning world champion Bren Esports from playoff contention.
Despite the loss, RSG PH ended their elimination round campaign with 17 points off a 7-7 slate – good for the sixth spot.
ONIC PH will end its regular season campaign against TNC tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
