Oftana, Tungcab replace Mike Nieto, Navarro for Gilas-Thailand II

Calvin Oftana and Jaydee Tungcab are set to make their Gilas debut.

The two have been plugged into the Philippines’ lineup when it faces Thailand again on Monday in the second window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in Manama, Bahrain.

This will be the first time Oftana and Tungcab don the national team colors in their young career.

The two replaced Will Navarro and Mike Nieto.

Navarro, a 6-foot-6 utility forward, had four points and a rebound in 16 minutes of gametime during Gilas’ 93-61 win over Thailand last Friday while Mike Nieto had eight points and two assists in 14 minutes.

Completing the squad are Kobe Paras, Isaac Go, Matt Nieto, Dwight Ramos, Juan Gomez de Liaño, Justine Baltazar, Javi Gomez de Liaño, Rey Suerte, Dave Ildefonso, and Kemark Carino.

The young squad will again take on a short-handed Thailand squad consisting of Chanathip Jakrawan, Nakorn Jaisanuk, Nattakarn Muangboon, Wattana Suthisin, Chatpol Chuengyampin, Bandit Lakhan, Sukhdave Ghogar, Montien Wongsawangtham, Anucha Langsui, and Anasawee Klaewnarong.

Last Saturday, Thailand fell to 0-3 after falling to Indonesia, 76-90.
