NU Lady Bullpups showcase depth vs UST, extend streak to seven in UAAP Girls’ Volleyball


The National University-Nazareth School sustained their perfect run in the UAAP Season 82 Girls’ Volleyball Tournament after sweeping the University of Santo Tomas, 25-21, 25-17, 25-15, on Wednesday at the Paco Arena.

Erin Pangilinan, Alyssa Solomon, and Evangeline Alinsug all tallied 11 points. Meanwhile, Mhicaela Belen added seven points, including two service aces as the Bullpups moved to 7-0.

“Sabi ko sa kanila noong second set, we just have to get back on track kasi minsan talaga nawawala ‘yung players. Hopefully hindi na ulit mangyari sa next games,” said first-year NU coach Regine Diego.

The Lady Bullpups used a 15-5 run in the third set, topped by Sheena Toring’s block kill, to pull away from a close 6-4 affair to a 21-9 blowout.

In the other matches, Far Eastern University-Diliman trounced University of the Philippines Integrated School, 25-22, 25-13, 25-15. On the other hand, the Adamson University scored a 25-18, 25-9, 21-25, 20-25, 15-11 win over the University of the East.

The Baby Lady Tamaraws and Baby Lady Falcons are tied for third place with 5-3 slates, just a game behind the Junior Tigresses, who sport a 6-2 record.

Renee Lou Peñafiel had nine points for UST, who lost twice to NU this season.

Alexis Miner topscored for FEU with 12 points on nine spikes, two blocks, and a service ace. Zey Pacia poured in 11 points.

UPIS, whom Jeul Ferrer paced with eight markers, remain winless in eight outings.

Captain Maria Lalongisip led Adamson with 16 points off 12 attacks and four aces, to go with 14 digs. Meanwhile, Kate Santiago had an all-around game of 13 points, 12 receptions, and nine digs.

Lovelee Hernandez had 19 points built on 16 spikes and three blocks to lead UE.

Girls’ action resumes, with three match-ups on Sunday at the Blue Eagle Gym.
