Noy Bermudes, JR Galit power defending NBL champ Paranaque to opening day win


Kicking off their title defense campaign on the right note, the Paranaque Aces bested the Laguna Pistons, 95-84, last Saturday to start off its title defense in the National Basketball League (NBL) at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna.

Last year’s finals Most Valuable Player Noy Bermudes scored 14 points, while JR Galit had 11 points for the Parañaque Aces to win their first game of the second season of the league being shown live on Basketball TV.

In other results, Nico Paolo Alcantara had 16 points as the Taguig Generals overcame last year’s runner-up Dasmariñas Ballers, 88-82.

Over at the PNP Gymnasium in Quezon City last Sunday, Jerome Garcia had 22 points and eight rebounds to power newcomer Pasig Rios beat the Zamboanga Valientes, 82-75.

John Cruz had 18 points, 18 rebounds, and two blocks as the Bulacan Starks-McDavid overcame the Quezon City Rising Stars, 87-82.
