NLEX and Rain or Shine cruised to easy wins to remain undefeated in the PBA-Tag Heuer 3-on-3 women’s basketball tournament Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
In Group A action, NLEX zoomed to their third straight win after a 15-1 trashing of Phoenix in the first game.
Analyn Almazan scored three straight baskets to push the NLEX lead to 8-1, before Kath Sandel and Angel Ortega each took turns extending the margin.
An and-one conversion by Ortega made it 14-1, before Almazan ended the match with a lay-up. Joan Diego was the lone scorer for Phoenix in the match.
NLEX stayed undefeated at 3-0 with the win, while Phoenix dropped to 0-3.
In the second match, Ara Abaca made a successful debut as her Rain or Shine prevailed over San Miguel, 13-7 in Group B.
The Elasto Painters jumped out to a 6-0 lead on an Abaca free throw, before Lorenzvi Tan and Denyse Jimenez ended the dry spell for San Miguel.
Ayra Hufanda then knocked down a two, while Jimenez scored to cut Rain or Shine’s lead down to just 9-7.
But Kath Garcia and Abaca answered with back-to-back baskets to extend the advantage up to 11-7. Rain or Shine were not threatened again as San Miguel struggled to hit their outside shots.
Rain or Shine improved to 2-0 with the win, tying Blackwater on top of Group B standings. San Miguel suffered their third straight setback and sank to 0-3.
