An absolute marathon thriller was Ateneo de Manila University’s victory over the gritty Adamson University to cap the Saturday quadruple-header of the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament.
And fittingly so, tears fell from Blue Eagles main gunner Faith Nisperos after the 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 19-17 triumph at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
“I was very emotional at the end of the game kasi lahat kami, from coaches to my teammates, pinaghirapan talaga namin ito,” said Nisperos in the post-game interview.
“We put all out efforts, ang daming sakripisyo na nagawa namin and nandoon ‘yung pagod eh.”
She was at the forefront for Ateneo with a season-high 31 points on 26 attacks, four service aces, and a block to go with 22 excellent receptions.
So after the spectacle that was the 2 hours and 44 minutes match, the leading scorer of the Blue Eagles just could not help but cry.
“I’m so proud of my teammates, of my team na hindi kami bumigay. Lahat kami nagsama-sama lumaban,” the 22-year-old outside hitter said.
“At the end of the game, I’m so proud of them kaya naiyak na lang ako.”
And she has more reasons to show those emotions as Ateneo erased its tie with the Lady Falcons in the middle of the team standings, going ahead at 7-5 for solo fourth place, a game ahead of Adamson now at 6-6.
With the victory, the Blue Eagles have now won three consecutive games, peaking at the right time with just two game days left in the elimination round.
But for Nisperos, they’re not gonna be contented.
“Yes, we’re getting there but we’re not gonna stop.”
