Nisperos ready to be Ateneo’s leader on and off the court


With Dani Ravena and Jaja Maraguinot no longer with the team, Faith Nisperos has embraced the leadership role of Ateneo de Manila University’s women’s volleyball team.

Nisperos said that she knows that it is something that is expected of her and that it is something that she is already familiar with having led Nazareth School of National University before.

“It is a role na I embrace naman kasi I know naman the responsibilities that I have,” Nisperos said after leading the Blue Eagles’ three-set victory over San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the 2022 V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge, Wednesday.

“I know na one of those responsibilities is to lead the team and ‘di naman na siya bago sakin, I know it’s expected of me and I just wanna do right on that role,” she added.

Nisperos finished with 18 points on 11 attacks, six aces, and a block in Ateneo’s 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 drubbing of San Sebastian in just two sets of play at the Paco Arena. She also capped off an 11-1 blast in the third set with four consecutive aces to completely fend off the Golden Stags.

And the V-League, which serves as an avenue for schools to fine-tune their respective games before the collegiate season, is the perfect place to do it.

“Marami pang kailangan pagtrabahuhan as always, yun naman lagi that’s why we’re here, we want to learn, we wanna see what we want to improve on,” Nisperos said. “I think it’s a matter of syempre wanting to improve myself and working on consistency and today lumabas siya pero more work will be done,” she added.

“Well, syempre we always look at these kinds of leagues as preseason ‘di ba? Opportunities. It’s a blessing kasi coming from last year na wala talaga at all, this gives us more ample time to prepare and to look at our future opponents when it comes to the UAAP so masisilip namin kung nasan na yung level nila, what we need to improve on and what level we need to reach or lagapsan.”
