A new era for Philippine 3×3 basketball will begin at the 2024 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup, taking place from March 27-31, 2024, in Singapore.
Assuming the role of program director for the half-court game is Eric Altamirano, who will also lead Gilas Women’s 3×3.
Meanwhile, the promise has been fulfilled for the men’s side as decorated PBA 3×3 head coach Mau Belen will be the head coach of Gilas Men’s 3×3.
Belen will bring three of her trusted wards from TNT to the national team: Gryann Mendoza (#3), Ping Exciminiano (#9), and Chester Saldua (#39).
Completing the squad is Meralco’s Joseph Sedurifa (#40).
For Gilas Women, the team will be led by Kaye Pingol (#5) and Camille Clarin.
Mikka Cacho (#7) and Jhazmin Joson (#25) complete the quartet.
Gilas Men will be in Pool C along with powerhouse Japan and the winner of the qualifying draw between Australia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tahiti.
On the other hand, Gilas Women will have to navigate through QD B, facing Kazakhstan, Maldives, and Tahiti.
If the Philippines survives QD B, they will face Mongolia and Malaysia in Pool C.
Last year, Gilas Men failed to advance past the preliminary round, finishing 0-2.
Gilas Women, on the other hand, made it to the quarterfinals before losing to New Zealand, 17-10.
