Nesthy Petecio stamped her class over Sri Lankan Krismi Lankapurayalag with a dominant 30-27, 30-27, 30-24, 30-26, 30-26 unanimous decision win in the featherweight division of the 2020 Asia-Oceania Olympic Qualification Tournament, Wednesday at the Prince Hamzeh Hall, Sport City in Amman, Jordan.
Petecio, a reigning AIBA world champion, is just a win away from punching her ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The final four in the division will have a berth in the Games.
The 27-year-old native of Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur would not be denied in this bout, punishing her opponent during the five round encounter.
“Despite winning today, I’m not satisfied with my performance. I felt heavy today,” admitted Petecio in an interview with Olympic Channel.
“My coaches said just box normally, don’t be nervous, and stick to the game plan. I just took it easy, didn’t go for the hard punches, and just collected points,” she continued.
Up next for Petecio is 19-year-old Japanese Sena Irie, who defeated Amy Andrew of New Zealand via unanimous decision.
