Colegio de San Juan de Letran has laid out the framework for NCAA Season 96.
With the member schools hit hard by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Season 96 will only have four events — namely, mandatory sports basketball, volleyball, swimming, and track and field.
Moreover, the Grand Old League is targeting opening its curtains during the first quarter of 2021.
“Season 96, which will have Colegio de San Juan de Letran as host, shall begin in the early months of 2021, subject to the decisions of the government for the favorable conduct of games, while strictly observing proper health protocols,” read the statement of Letran co-signed by Season 96 President Rev. Fr. Clarence Marquez OP and Chairman Fr. Vic Calvo OP.
Besides the four events, the league is also in the midst of finalizing two demonstration events — online chess and esports.
The league will also relax its rules and requirements on the eligibility of its student-athletes, including age, playing years, enrollment, and grades. This, as the participants are also adjusting to the academic adjustments of the educational system due to the pandemic.
“The league’s objective of youth development through sports deserves our unequivocal support in order to continue and contribute to the future of our nation and our world,” the statement read.
