Saint Benilde romps Letran; Mapua survives San Sebastian

The College of Saint Benilde Blazers continued their strong start, while the Mapua University Cardinals escaped a tight-five setter in the NCAA Season 94 Men’s Volleyball tournament.
The Blazers surged to their second straight win, sweeping the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights, 25-23, 25-17, 25-19.
Benilde head coach Arnold Laniog commended his team’s play after bouncing back from a slow start in the first set.
“Siguro medyo nagkapaan pa nung first set, nagpa-init muna. Pero nagtuloy-tuloy naman na kami noong nakakuha na ng momentum. Kaunting polishing pada sa next games namin,” said Laniog.
Former University of the East Red Warrior Vince Abrot topped the Blazers with 15 points, while captain Francis Basilan managed 10.
Mhel Gabuyo led the Knights with 13 markers.
In the first match of the day, the Cardinals needed a decider to put away the San Sebastian College – Recoletos Stags, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 17-15.
Alfred Pagulong and Angelbert Navas each provided 21 points for the Cardinals, who rebounded from a loss in their debut.
Robbie Pamittan powered the Stags with 22 points, while Natalian Bunsuan added 21.
