San Sebastian wallops Letran to create tie at third

The San Sebastian College-Recolletos Lady Stags created a logjam with the Perpetual Lady Altas after piercing through the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights, 25-9, 25-22, 25-18, Thursday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Captain Joyce Sta. Rita followed her career-high performance in the previous game with 18 points in this win. The middle blocker had 10 attacks, five blocks, and three aces.

It was a dominant performance from the Lady Stags in all scoring skills as, and despite the comeback attempts of the Knights, the former still prevailed.

The Recto-based squad’s head coach Roger Gorayeb was pleased. He said, “Ayos naman. Nakakatuwa sila ngayon; walls masyadong errors.

“At least, ‘yung laro na gusto kong mangyari, nagagawa naman,” the seasoned tactician added. Nonetheless, he ended, “But we have to do more pa. Eh ang lalakas ng kalaban.”

No one reached double-digit production from the Lady Knights, as Jaymee Parin and Kath Barrinuevo ended with six markers each.

San Sebastian (4-2) will try to solidify their postseason bid when they face the Lyceum of the Philippines University (1-5) on Sunday. Letran (2-4) will battle the winless Emilio Aguinaldo College (0-6) on Monday.

The Scores:

SSCR 3 – Sta. Rita 18, Dalisay 12, Santos 11, Encarnacion 9, Tiangco 2, Guillema 2, Eroa L.

CSJL 0 – Parin 6, Barrinuevo 6, Simborio 5, Torres 3, Perez 3, Bangcola 2, Abitan 2, Urriza 1, Larioque L.
