San Beda routs Saint Benilde to return to win column

Defending champions San Beda College Red Lions bounced back in a big way, romping the College of Saint Benidle Blazers, 76-52, Tuesday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

The win pushed San Beda’s slate to 2-1 but, more importantly, it gave the Red Lions a much-needed confidence boost after suffering a 91-96 loss to the Lyceum Pirates last Friday.

“The guys are really excited to bounce back. It was a sorry loss for us last game but we just simply have to move on from that loss. It’s really a test of character how to bounce back,” coach Boyet Fernandez said.

Javee Mocon scattered 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Robert Bolick had nine points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two steals

It was initially a close game after the first frame, 16-15, but Saint Benilde’s sloppy passing and miscommunication in the rest of the quarters stunted any momentum they built in the beginning.

San Beda created 24 points out of Benilde’s 26 turnovers all throughout the contest.

The Red Lions tallied a biggest lead of 29 at, 76-47, after Clint Doliguez finished a basket with two minutes left. The game ended at 76-52.

Sharpshooter AC Soberano added nine markers, spiked by three triples. As a team, the Red Lions went an efficient 9-for-22 from downtown.

“One game at a time. From now, confidence booster ‘tong win namin, tuloy tuloy na lang, get us back on track,” Mocon said.

Clement Leutcheu and Kendrix Belgica paced the Blazers with 10 and 8 points respectively, and five rebounds each.
