Four Cardinals scored in double-digits as Mapua University broke into the NCAA Season 93 Men’s Volleyball win column with a quick win over the Colegio San Juan de Letran Knights, 25-20, 25-11, 25-21, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
After succumbing to Arellano University on opening day, Mapua’s newly-minted head coach Paul Dolorias wants his team to keep focus on their next games.
“Malaking bagay, siyempre, na nakakuha na kami ng panalo. Medyo nabawasan na ‘yung pressure sa amin. Hopefully, malaki ang maitutulong nito para sa momentum sa mga susunod naming games,” said Dolorias, the decorated beach volleyball coach of the University of Santo Tomas.
The Cardinals bombarded the Knights with solid serves that fueled their offense. This was evident in Mapua’s 37-24 attacking advantage and 5-1 aces tally.
Mark Egan topped the Cardinals with 12 points while Alfred Pagulong added 11. Sam Damian and team captain Anjo Pertierra each provided 10 markers in Mapua’s wire-to-wire triumph.
The Cardinals (1-1) take on the Lyceum of the Philippines University (0-1) on January 15.
Rookie Christopher Cistina powered the Knights with seven points while Bobby Gatdula and Paul Alilio each had six points.
Letran (0-2) faces Final Four favorite Arellano University (1-0) on Friday.
