NCAA 98: Perpetual’s Dupol-Padua remains unblemished, deals EAC first loss


University of Perpetual Help System DALTA continued its dominance and is now the only unbeaten team in the NCAA Season 98 Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament on Thursday at Subic, Zambales.

Mary Rhose Dupol and Janine Padua of the Lady Altas handed Catherine Almazan and Banares of Emilio Aguinaldo College its first loss of the tournament after a dominating two-set victory (21-7, 21-12).

With the win, Perpetual is sitting comfortably at the one spot with 7-0, while the Generals are now 6-1.

Also 6-1 are Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Chamberlaine Cuñada and Lara Mae Silva. The Knights held on to their hot streak beating both San Sebastian College-Recetos’ Katherine Santos and Kristine Dionisio (21-12, 21-13) and Lyceum of the Philippines University’s Joan Doguna and Ritanhelle Perez (21-14, 21-13).

Currently at four are Trisha Mae Paras and Maxine Joyce Tayag of San Beda University with a 4-2 win-loss record. The Red Lions edged College of St. Benilde’s Jessa Dorog and Wielyn Estoque (21-19, 21-15) but lost to EAC in their second bout of the day (21-17, 21-14)

Benilde is currently in the fifth spot with a 4-3 record followed by San Sebastian (3-3) and Arellano University’s Harem Ceballos and Marianne Padillon (2-5).

Francine Macatangay and Raina Vergino of Mapua University together with Lyceum are tied with 1-6, while still at dead last are Jose Rizal University’s Karyla Jasareno and Marianne Aloña.

Final day of the elimination will be tomorrow still at the same venue.
