The NBL and WNBL have decided to suspend the resumption of the games again after the extension of MECQ in Metro Manila until September 15.
The two leagues had already scheduled their restart the 2021 season on September 11 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga. There would be one game in the WNBL and three games in the NBL.
League officials, however, postponed the games once again after the latest declaration by the Inter-Agency Task Force that National Capital Region will remain under MECQ up to September 15.
While Pampanga, the venue of the games, is an MGCQ area, some NBL and WNBL professional basketball teams are under MECQ areas. That prevents them from conducting practices and trainings under the supervision of the Games and Amusements Board.
NBL/WNBL had previously postponed the season last July 30 in conjunction with the IATF placing Metro Manila under ECQ.
“As much as the teams and players are very excited to return to the court, the NBL and the WNBL will remain compliant with the government mandate during this pandemic,” said NBL/WNBL executive vice president Rhose Montreal.
The postponed games of the September 11 restart are Taguig Lady Generals against Quezon Lady SparTAN in the WNBL. Then follows the Sulong Stan Spartan versus Muntinlupa Water Warriors; Laguna Pistons versus Quezon Barons; and Pampanga Delta versus Mindoro Tamaraws DisiplINAdos.
In the Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup 2021, the Bulacan DF Republicans, who were scheduled to play on September 12, are currently the leader with a 2-0 win-loss record.
Glutagence Glow Boosters, on the other hand, are in first place in the Pia Cayetano WNBL Season 2021 having won two of their games so far.
