Nash Racela agrees terms with Blackwater

Nash Racela is making his way back to the PBA now that he has agreed terms with Blackwater.

According to multiple reports, the 47-year-old met with Elite team owner Dioceldo Sy and team governor Silliman Sy on Wednesday. He then inked a guaranteed two-year deal.

This marks Racela’s second coaching gig in the PBA. He last coached the TNT KaTropa back in 2018 before taking a leave of absence, where he was succeeded by Bong Ravena.

The seasoned mentor will be taking over interim coach Aris Dimaunahan, who will now be his lead assistant.

Racela’s arrival is actually a reunion of sorts. Part of his coaching staff is Gilbert Lao, whom he worked with during their time with the Far Eastern University Tamaraws.

He will also reunite with his former players Carl Bryan Cruz, Mac Belo, and Mike Tolomia — Racela, Belo, and Tolomia all enjoyed a UAAP championship together in 2015.

The Elite will convene on December 2 and Racela will likely be in attendance, ushering in a new era for the franchise.
