Although many sought to secure his transfer, it was the defending NCAA champions who emerged victorious in the battle.
Colegio de San Juan de Letran successfully secured the commitment of St. Clare College of Caloocan standout Johnsherick ‘Jimboy’ Estrada.
Estrada made his decision official on Friday evening during a meeting with Knights head coach Rensy Bajar.
Also present at the meeting were team consultant Bonnie Tan, athletic director Fr. Vic Calvo, OP, assistant coach Raymund Tiongco, team manager Joey Uy, and program booster Ryan Roxas.
“Masaya kami siyempre na nakuha namin si Jimboy Estrada,” expressed Bajar. “Napapanood ko na maglaro yan dati sa mga liga dito sa Caloocan.”
Estrada, 21, has been regarded as the top prospect not participating in the UAAP or the NCAA.
In his inaugural season with the Saints, he led St. Clare to the NAASCU championship while earning Rookie MVP honors.
The versatile winger further gained recognition during preseason leagues.
In the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup, he averaged 10.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
Estrada is also showcasing his skills in the MPBL, playing for Imus and posting stats of 12.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest.
“Maayos na bata at higit sa lahat, isa siyang fighter na hindi umaayaw sa laban,” added Bajar. “Madalas kasi dati namin nakakalaban sa mga preseason tournaments sila Jimboy nung nasa Diliman College pa ako at pati dito sa Letran.
“Malaki talaga ang potential ng batang ito at alam niya kung paano manalo.”
Estrada joins a group of recruits who are serving their residency for Letran’s NCAA Season 100 campaign.
Also in the pipeline are players like Nathan Montecillo.
