Mylene Paat-Rezanova makes every game count amid uncertain future

Uncertain about what the future holds, Mylene Paat-Rezanova is treating every game of the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference as if it were her last.

Paat-Rezanova, 32, admitted that she is now at a point in her life where she is considering settling down, leaving her future in volleyball uncertain as she looks to make the most of what could be her final season in the league.

“I will treat this conference or this season as my last playing year. kasi hindi ko alam ano pa mangyayari sa future,” said the former league MVP, who is married to Kazakh volleyball player Sergey Rezanov.

“And based on myself also, na nasa edad na ako na set for settlement,” she added.

Paat-Rezanova certainly played like someone determined to make every game count. She delivered a game-high 14 points to lead Farm Fresh to a sweep of Galeries Tower, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15, and a winning start to its Siklab series campaign on Tuesday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Coming off the bench, she tallied 11 attacks and three kill blocks in the one-hour, 32-minute victory.

As she enters the twilight of her career, Paat-Rezanova also feels determined to pass on the lessons she has learned over the past decade to her younger teammates. She hopes to show them that age is no barrier to competing at a high level as long as they have the heart and passion for the game.

“I will play talaga na I will share kung ano yung mga natutunan ko in the past 10 years, kung paano lumaban inside the court. Matanda ka man o bata, kayang-kaya mo pa rin maglaro as long as may puso ka sa paglalaro,” she said.

With the All-Filipino Conference divided into three series, Paat-Rezanova stressed the importance of getting off to a strong start in the Siklab series to build momentum for the rest of the campaign.

The veteran opposite hitter emphasized that the Foxies must remain consistent. The focus must be on winning each game as they aim to carry their momentum into the succeeding series and mount a strong challenge for the Philippine Grand Championship.

“Ayun na nga, as much as possible, dapat every game lang yung iintindihin namin. But then, somehow, kailangan talaga na nasa isip din namin na kailangan mag-ipon ng panalo, and malaking advantage yun sa amin na makapag-ipon ng panalo, lalong-lalo na itong first game namin na kinaya naming ipanalo ng three sets,” she said.

“By that, mas ginogoal namin na makapasok muna sa first series para, siyempre, makapasok din kami sa third series. And siguro, bawat isa sa amin, kailangan mag-focus lang din kami para maipanalo namin every game. Sobrang importante talaga.”
