Chery Tiggo middle blocker Cza Carandang had extra motivation against Cignal on Saturday night.
Prior to the match, Crossovers team captain Mylene Paat agreed to give her a pair of shoes if they win their matchup against the HD Spikers at the PhilSports Arena.
That definitely pumped up the 24-year-old middle blocker as she finished with 14 points on 12 attacks, an ace, and a block to lead her side to a four-set, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 against the struggling Cignal.
“Thank you po sa bagong sapatos Ate My (Paat),” said Carandang during the post-game interview.
“Na-holdup nga ako, sinusukat niya nga kanina,” quipped Paat.
Turning serious, Carandang said that she wanted to relieve the pressure off the team’s wing spikers – which includes Paat, EJ Laure, and import Jelena Cvijovic – and help get them clear looks above the net.
With the Far Eastern University product attracting blockers, Paat was able to come up with 19 points while CviJovic and Laure scored 12 and 11, respectively.
“Gusto ko po kasi talagang makatulong sa wings ko. Ang mindset ko po talaga is maging decoy, makakuha ng blockers, para hindi na sila gaanong nahihirapan kasi malalaki e ‘di ba kasi Reinforced ngayon,” said Carandang, who was picked up by
“So para makaporsyento, ‘di ko naman inexpect na ganun din katiwala yung setter sakin.”
Carandang looks to pick up where she left off against Akari on Tuesday at 2:30 PM.
