MPL PH: RSG takes down AP.Bren, boosts upper bracket bid

RSG Philippines pulled off a much-needed 2-1 reverse sweep against AP.Bren, keeping their upper bracket aspirations alive in the penultimate week of the MPL Philippines Season 13 on Saturday at the Shooting Gallery Studios.

The Raiders improved their record to 7-4 with 22 points, moving just a few points shy of third-placed ONIC Philippines (24 points) and ECHO (25 points).

Head coach Brian “Panda” Lim revealed that the recent game updates implemented in the middle of this week affected their preparations against AP.Bren.

“Honestly, this is the first time where I didn’t have preparation sa draft masyado because after the new patch last Wednesday, anything can happen. Lalo Bren yung kalaban namin,” he explained.

“They can play Ling. They can play any assassin plus they can play Chip, Masha, Lou Yi, lahat ng lason heroes,” he went on. “Parang sila yung isang team na all-rounded talaga and they know how to play it well.”

Lim added, “Yung inisip ko today is that we just need to perfect our communication, team work, diskarte sa mga team fights. Tapos as long as the draft is pantay or better, then we can win. And that’s what happened today.”

RSG surged to a 4k lead late in the 6th minute, courtesy of an impressive 8-2 kill score, and maintained their advantage.

Then Angelo Kyle “KyleTzy” Sayson (Fredrinn) secured the 10th-minute lord objective, capping off a momentum-swinging 3-0 exchange.

From there, AP.Bren never looked back. Marco “Super Marco” Requitiano (Claude) led the way with a near-perfect 4-1-6 KDA in the victory, earning the MVP title.

In Game 2, RSG once again dominated the early game, this time maintaining their lead to secure a quick 11-minute victory, bolstered by a commanding 13-4 kill score.

Game 3 came down to an 18th-minute lord dance, where Jonard “Demonkite” Caranto (Baxia) isolated KyleTzy (Nolan) on the top long bush. That then resulted in a pick-off and the series-clinching lord push a minute later.

RSG will next face TNC Pro Team on Sunday, April 28.
