MPL PH: RSG sweeps ONIC to advance to upper bracket semis

Defending champion RSG PH advanced to the upper bracket semifinals after sweeping ONIC PH, 3-0, in the MPL Philippines Season 10 quarterfinals, Thursday at the Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan in Quezon City.

The third seed will take on the second-ranked ECHO in the next round tomorrow.

RSG PH bucked a slow start to turn back ONIC PH and steal Game One, 12-11, in 20 minutes and 52 seconds of action.

During the first Lord dance of the game, the rookie-laden squad managed to take down Dylan “Light” Catipon (Atlas) which allowed Stephen “Sensui” Castillo (Minotaur) to snatch the objective. ONIC PH then took out Nathanael “Nathzz” Estrologo (Dyroth) and Jhonard “Demonkite” Caranto (Karina) before losing Sensui to take the first significant lead of the match.

ONIC PH took down Light once more entering the 15th minute before erasing RSG PH’s middle inhibitor turret which put them ahead in the gold department by 4K.

That lead, however, was short lived as RSG PH gunned down Ralph “Rapidoot” Adrales (Grock) and Kenneth “Nets” Barro to notch the second Lord. They also took out Sensui in the process.

RSG PH traded Light for Sensui during the 19th minute mark which proved to be the turning mark of the opener. With ONIC PH’s jungler out, the reigning MSC champion sealed the third Lord with ease before completing a three-man wipe for the win.

Nets sneaked inside RSG PH’s base but the Lord respawned in time to prevent the hijack play.

Nathzz led the way with four kills and five assists against one death while Arvie “Aqua” Calderon had a team-high seven assists to go along with a kill and a death in the come-from-behind Game One win.

Unlike the opener, RSG PH took the early lead in Game Two by taking down the first Lord and shutting down three ONIC PH heroes at the 5th minute.

RSG PH never looked back from there, bagging the next two Lords before securing a four-man wipe during the 17th minute to seal the 2-0 advantage.

Eman “EMANN” Sangco (Irithel) paced RSG PH with a perfect 4-0-6 KDA line while Light recorded a game-high nine assists to go along with two kills and a death in the dominant 15-5 Game Two win in 17 minutes and 23 seconds.

RSG PH then took Game Three to complete the sweep.

ONIC PH, who placed fourth in Season Nine, ended Season 10 at 5th-6th place.

RSG PH takes on the second-seeded ECHO in the best-of-five upper bracket semis tomorrow, Friday at 1:00 PM.
