Mikey Williams is back in the Philippines after being gone for almost two years.
The Filipino-American combo guard signed with Strong Group Athletics as they prepare for the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship from January 24 to February 2, 2025.
The two-time PBA Finals MVP – who led TNT Tropang Giga to two PBA championships – has yet to re-sign with the team.
Williams arrived on Tuesday to kickstart his campaign with Strong Group.
This move reunites Williams with Strong Group head coach Charles Tiu, under whom he previously found success with Mighty Sports, winning the 2019 William Jones Cup and the 2020 Dubai Basketball Championship.
“I’m excited to be working with him again,” said Tiu. “I was quite close to him before. We won two championships together, and hopefully, we can win another one.”
Williams will bolster a loaded roster that features Rhenz Abando, Dave Ildefonso, Angelo Kouame, Andray Blatche, NCAA MVP Allen Liwag, Tony Ynot, and Justine Sanchez.
Completing the lineup are imports Demarcus Cousins, Malachi Richardson, and Terry Larrier, as Strong Group aims to avenge last year’s loss to Al-Riyadi in the final.
