After all the trials and tribulations last year, Mikey Williams has found his redemption.
The fourth overall pick in the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft was crowned the 2023 Honda-PBA Governors’ Cup Finals Most Valuable Player.
This was his second Finals MVP crown after towing the Tropang Giga to the top in Bacolor back in 2021.
“First off, all glory to God. It’s Him,” expressed the former G Leaguer.
“Praying and staying in the gym all day. Everything I do is about staying in the lab. It’s just the hard work I put in.”
And there was no doubt Williams deserved this one.
In the tough six-game series they figured in with Ginebra, Williams averaged 22.0 points, 3.33 rebounds, and 3.17 assists per game.
He saved his best for last in the title clincher, dropping 38 points on nine triples with seven rebounds and three assists.
“I think we weathered a big storm. We beat a good team and a very well-coached team,” he said.
Early last year, Williams figured in a contract dispute with TNT. Now, he has proven to Jojo Lastimosa that he is all worth it.
