Marwin Quirante gears up for quick turnaround at ONE Friday Fights 89

Marwin Quirante has earned an opportunity to bolster his case for a coveted spot on the main roster of ONE Championship.

“The Green Goblin” is set to report for duty on the supporting card of ONE Friday Fights 89, emanating live from the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on November 29.

His next outing has been confirmed by a trusted source to Tiebreaker Times, revealing that the 21-year-old will go head-to-head with Tajikistan’s Khushdil Jafarov in a strawweight MMA encounter.

This assignment comes just 35 days after Quirante’s electrifying debut on ONE’s weekly event series, where up-and-comers like him vie for a $100,000 deal and the chance to be recognized as an official ONE athlete.

The Marawi native made a statement in his maiden appearance, dismantling fellow debutant Phan Thanh Tung with a commanding performance.

Quirante showcased his versatility in the opening round of that bout, stuffing every takedown attempt while delivering sharp combinations that kept the Vietnamese on the defensive.

When the action transitioned to the ground, Quirante asserted his dominance, unleashing a barrage of ground-and-pound strikes that nearly ended the contest before the bell.

Overwhelmed by the damage, Phan elected to throw in the towel before the second round, giving Quirante the stoppage victory.

The decisive triumph pushed his professional record to 5-1 and caught the attention of respected veterans, including Lito Adiwang, who expressed confidence in Quirante’s readiness for ONE’s grand stage.

However, before he can take the next step, Quirante must overcome Jafarov, an equally promising mixed martial artist with a 5-1 ledger and four submission wins.

A Brazilian jiu-jitsu purple belt, the Tajikistani has competed in elite grappling tournaments across Central Asia and the Middle East.

Moreover, Jafarov has fought in weight classes ranging from flyweight to featherweight, adding an intriguing element to this matchup as he attempts to make the strawweight limit of 125 pounds under ONE’s global MMA ruleset.

This presents a high-risk challenge for Quirante, but the potential rewards are just as great.

Another stellar win could pave the way for the Filipino to land a life-changing contract with the promotion.
