Marinerong Pilipino loads up with MVPs Gab Banal, Mike Ayonayon

Needing as big a push as they can get to make it to the 2019 PBA D-League playoffs, Marinerong Pilipino signed three players that have made waves in the recently-concluded MPBL season.

Out to help out Santi Santillan, Anton Asistio, Kib Montalbo, and Orlan Wamar are 2018-19 MPBL Datu Cup MVP Gab Banal, Finals MVP Mike Ayonayon, and Game Five hero Jhonard Clarito.

The trio replaced Felix Apreku, Enrico Garcia, and Daniel Aguirre.

Banal, who was the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup MVP, averaged 18.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 6.4 assists for the Bacoor City Strikers.

For his part, Ayonayon averaged 16.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in the San Juan Knights’ five-game Finals series against Davao Occidental.

Meanwhile, Ayonayon played one game for the Skippers back on February 14, scoring 23 points in an overtime loss to Valencia City-San Sebastian.

Though just 23 years young, Clarito has proven that he is a big-time player as seen in his performance during the MPBL Finals.

Marinerong Pilipino sport a 3-3 record in the Foundation Group, trailing Chadao-FEU by a half-a-game for third, and tied with Diliman College-Gerry’s Grill.

The Skippers still have Diliman College, MetroPac-San Beda, and Perpetual Help in their calendar.
