Marie June Adriano captured the Philippines’ second bronze medal in the 20th Asian Games karate after a dominant 10–3 victory over Chinese Taipei’s Chung Ya-chi in the women’s under-50kg kumite on Wednesday at the Toyohashi Gymnasium.
The bronze medal followed the one secured by the women’s team kata squad, giving the Philippines its fifth medal of the competition.
Adriano earlier edged Cambodia’s Srey Phea Chonn, 4–3, before blanking South Korea’s Yang Yewon, 4–0.
The 22-year-old upstart then missed out on a chance to vie for the Philippines’ first gold medal after suffering a narrow 4–5 loss to Hong Kong’s Tsang Yee Ting.
