Malitbog Elementary School gets support from Jia De Guzman, volleyball community

Members of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) community have stepped up to provide much-needed support to the girls’ volleyball team of Malitbog Elementary School in Calinog, Iloilo.

The team had been playing without shoes, which caught the attention of Iloilo-based sports organizer Gametime Sports.

On March 27, Gametime Sports posted photos of the Malitbog volleyball players playing barefoot and appealed for donations to help the team.

The post quickly went viral and reached several PVL personalities, who were keen to lend their support.

Jia De Guzman, the reigning PVL All-Filipino Conference Finals MVP, pledged to donate 12 pairs of volleyball shoes to the team.

Meanwhile, Taj Chupungco, team coordinator for the Cool Smashers, PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort, and the Army all made cash donations.

Thanks to the generous contributions, Gametime Sports announced on April 2 that they had already collected a total of P43,300 for the Malitbog Elementary School girls’ volleyball team.

The team had recently emerged victorious in the municipal meet and is now gearing up to compete in the Inter-Division meet scheduled for April 15.

The swift response from the PVL community and the outpouring of support for the Malitbog Elementary School volleyball team demonstrate the power of social media and the willingness of individuals to come together for a common cause.
