PVL: Louie Romero steers Farm Fresh to first-ever win, sweeps Gerflor


Farm Fresh finally scored its breakthrough victory in the Premier Volleyball League after eliminating Gerflor, 25-17, 25-17, 25-15, to snap its 12-game losing streak in the Second All-Filipino Conference, Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The also-ran Foxies, who now hold a 1-7 record, dropped all of its five games in its maiden campaign in the Invitational Conference before losing its first seven matches in the season-ending conference.

“Sobrang happy talaga na nanalo kami ngayon kasi nagbunga lahat ng sacrifices namin, yung mga training namin. Ayun lang,” said Farm Fresh team captain Louie Romero.

After taking the first two sets, the Foxies went on a blazing 16-4 start anchored by middle blocker Camill Avila which ultimately took out the Defenders in the match, which lasted for 71 minutes.

“Masaya po kasi yun nga po tulad ni Ate (Louie), nagbunga yung training namin, first win. Kaya ang sarap lang din po sa feeling tapos top scorer pa kasi ‘di ko rin ineexpect kasi naglalaro lang kami, naglalaro lang ako na para sa team din,” added Trisha Tubu.

Kate Santiago top scored for Farm Fresh with 18 big points on 18 attacks to go along with five excellent receptions.

Tubu, despite sitting out the third set, managed to get nine points while Rizza Cruz and Avila, who only subbed in in the final frame, chipped in six points each.

Louie Romero tallied 13 excellent sets to go along with two points while Kiara Cruz had seven excellent digs and two excellent receptions.

On the other hand, the Defenders have now lost all of its seven games in the All-Filipino Conference. Gerflor has now lost all of its 12 matches since joining the league in the previous conference.

Jeanette Villareal registered 12 points for Gerflor while Danika Gendrauli had 11 markers.

Lhara Clavano tossed 11 excellent sets while Pia Sarmiento had 13 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions.

Farm Fresh will look to sustain its momentum against Petro Gazz on Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. at the Philsports Arena while Gerflor will try to bounce back against Akari on Saturday, 4:00 p.m. in Cagayan de Oro.
