Majoy Baron’s block party fueled by Kath Arado’s signals

Majoy Baron remains a relentless force in defense, with her dominance at the net proving crucial in propelling PLDT to a perfect 3-0 start in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

The reigning Season Best Middle Blocker recorded seven blocks in the High Speed Hitters’ third-straight victory, overcoming winless Akari, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21, 25-15, on Thursday, helping her team maintain an unbeaten record in the all-local tournament.

“Alam naman namin na malakas ‘yung net defense and floor defense ng Akari, so ‘yung preparation namin, tina-trust talaga namin ‘yung sistema and ‘yung pagaaral sa kalaban importante rin,” said Baron, who finished with 14 points in the win.

The 30-year-old middle blocker credited her teammates—especially team captain and libero Kath Arado—for her standout performance at the net, noting that their support and teamwork made it all possible.

Baron is currently averaging 4.66 blocks over PLDT’s last three games, recording two in their opening sweep of Creamline and five kill blocks in their recent four-set triumph over the Bella Belen-led Capital1.

“Ako, happy ako kasi siguro nakuha ko ‘yung blocks na ‘yun kasi tinutulungan ako ng teammates ko, ina-advise nila ako. Like si Kath [Arado], sinasabi niya kung ano ‘yung isasara ko. Nakaka-help, malaking tulong sa’kin,” said the three-time Conference Best Middle Blocker.

She added that her blocks are made even more effective thanks to her teammates’ steady reception and service, which allow her to focus on shutting down attacks at the net.

“Kasi sa’kin importante na maka-block ako kasi for me, as a middle blocker, middle blocker nga ‘di ba. So mas focus talaga ako sa job ko as blocker more than anything,” Baron said.

“’Yung sabi nga ng mga coaches, lumalabas ‘yung strength namin kapag maayos ‘yung serve. Kung maayos ‘yung serve, maayos rin ‘yung magiging net defense. And kapag maayos din ‘yung net defense namin, maayos din ‘yung floor defense. So teamwork talaga,” she added.

Baron and the High Speed Hitters now turn their attention to their next challenge, facing Cignal on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the same venue, aiming to sustain their unbeaten momentum in the conference.

“Ayun nga ‘yung sabi ni coach Rald [Ricafort], makikita talaga kung paano ‘yung galaw namin on the game so this coming next game, ayusin lang namin ‘yung preparation.”
