Needing a big man to further beef up their frontline, the Magnolia Hotshots tapped 6-foot-9 John Fields as their reinforcement for the upcoming 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
A team official confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times, verifying the report by SPIN.ph.
The 31-year-old is currently playing with the Singapore Slingers in the ABL. There, he posted post norms of 22.2 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.
Fields and the Slingers are in the midst of a Finals series against the CLS Knights.
This will be Fields’ second foray in the PBA.
Last year, the Columbian Dyip tapped Fields after CJ Aiken played the first three games of the conference. After a 2-1 start, the Dyip finished with a 4-7 record, while Fields ended up with a 2-6 slate.
On the other hand, Magnolia needed four imports last year.
Vernon Macklin started their campaign with a 3-1 record. However, he signed with another league, which resulted in Magnolia picking up Curtis Kelly.
Kelly went 0-2 and was replaced by Justin Jackson. Jackson only went 1-2, before Magnolia tapped Wayne Chism.
Magnolia ended the elimination round with a 6-5 record, before being knocked out by Alaska in the quarterfinals.
