Ateneo de Manila University sharpshooter Jhazmin Joson was limited in their game against University of the Philippines last weekend.
And what better way to bounce back than by scoring the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Basketball Tournament season high on Wednesday morning?
The graduating guard had a dismal six-point performance on 2-of-9 shooting from the field, while also committing seven turnovers in their 71-48 loss to UP.
But today, she came up huge against Adamson University.
Against the Lady Falcons, the 24-year-old winger exploded for a season-high 32 points, founded on eight three-pointers.
She also had five rebounds, five assists, a block, and a steal in 37 minutes and 15 seconds of floor time to help the Blue Eagles win 69-61.
The previous season-high was also held by Joson with 29 points in their first-round clash with UP on October 15. It was level with Dela Rosa and Luisa San Juan’s outputs in different games.
“Honestly, bumawi lang talaga ako,” said the Gilas Pilipinas pool member.
“Coming back from that loss, it really made me mad and pissed about it because it was a crucial game. It was a crucial game again today, so I had to really step up because of the UP game.”
Her shots were much-needed, especially in the first half when the Blue Eagles played sluggishly, resulting in a 35-38 deficit at the half against the three-win Adamson.
That hole would have been much deeper if it wasn’t for Joson, who scored 23 of her points in the first half, including seven triples.
In the second half, it was time for the Ateneo bigs to dominate, as Sarah Makanjuola and Kacey Dela Rosa finished off the Lady Falcons.
“It was really just taking advantage of that defense. I mean, if they weren’t adjusting, so I might as well take advantage.”
