Macandili-Catindig sets record for most digs in PVL’s pro era

F2 Logistics libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig downplayed her defensive masterclass, which saw her set the record for the most excellent digs in the professional era of the Premier Volleyball League last Saturday.

Macandili-Catindig was all over the floor against Cignal, registering an impressive 48 excellent digs, along with 15 excellent receptions, to lead the Cargo Movers to a four-set victory over the HD Spikers in the Invitational Conference.

The former La Salle star also credited her teammates, whose blockings enabled her to defend the floor with ease.

“Well, ginagawa ko lang naman yung trabaho ko. So thankful din ako sa teammates ko [kasi] ‘di ko naman madidipensahan yun kung magulo yung blockings,” Macandili said after 25-20, 30-28, 23-25, 25-22 victory at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

Macandili-Catindig revealed that F2 Logistics emphasized their defense after observing Cignal setter Angel Cayuna’s balanced ball distribution in the HD Spikers’ previous four-set win.

“Yung mindset ko kasi sa game na ‘to alam namin na matiyaga din yung Cignal and magaling mag-distribute ng bola yung setter nila so talagang mataas yung porsyento sa attacking,” said Macandili.

“Lalo na nung first game nila na ang daming… medyo madami talaga yung atake nila so pinag-aralan talaga namin. Thankfully, yung blocking namin maayos. Nadalian lang ako sa depensa sa likod,” she added.

The UAAP Season 80 Finals MVP stated that she would maintain the same intensity in the Cargo Movers’ upcoming matches as they aim to continue their strong 2-0 start in Pool B after the league’s VNL break.

“Syempre ano, thankful kami sa win and babaunin namin yung experience kasi every set naman naga-adjust e. Babaunin namin yung experience going forward to the next games.”
