LVPI retains Shaq Delos Santos as PWNVT head coach

Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. has retained Shaq Delos Santos as the head coach of the Philippine Women’s National Volleyball team.

This, despite a disappointing outcome in the recently-concluded 30th Southeast Asian Games, where the Filipinas finished dead last and empty-handed in the four-team field.

“Ang naging desisyon kanina sa meeting, status quo lahat retained,” bared LVPI board chairman and national team program head Peter Cayco in a general meeting on Friday, with federation president Joey Romasanta, secretary-general Ariel Paredes and the coaches also in attendance.

Delos Santos received the coaching reins back in 2018, replacing the seasoned tactician Ramil De Jesus, who begged off due to personal reasons.

The veteran mentor manned the helm for the Nationals in the 2018 Asian Games, where they settled at eight place, and the 2018 Asian Women’s Volleyball Cup, where the country placed ninth in a 10-nation field.

Delos Santos also held the tricolor squad’s fort in the two legs of the 2019 ASEAN Grand Prix months before the regional biennial meet. There, the Philippines put up a gutsy stand and produced a pair of bronze medal finishes.
