Luis Villegas to visit family first before possibly signing with Meralco 3×3

Luis Villegas was the game-changer for University of the East that turned the school’s fortunes around in UAAP Season 85.

Coming off a winless campaign just a few months ago, the Red Warriors put up a gallant campaign, pulling off five victories – including two stunners against De La Salle University.

And so the versatile 6-foot-8 forward shared his Mythical Team honor with his teammates.

“Very grateful for my teammates and the community. This isn’t just an individual award but a team award for UE,” said Villegas, who averaged 13.14 points, 8.07 rebounds, 3.79 assists, and 1.93 steals during the season.

However, Villegas will no longer have a chance for redemption as he already spent four years with California State University Stanislaus prior to arriving in UE.

The 24-year-old is in no rush to make a decision yet as he wants to come back home to his family in California first.

“I just want to go home and visit my family first. The decision is coming,” he said.

“Nothing concrete right now and taking all the offers first. Then will go from there.”

One of the offers on the table is to play for Meralco 3×3 for the 2023 PBA 3×3 Season 2 Third Conference.

It will be a good stop for Villegas as the next PBA draft is still a full 10 months away.

But if there are offers to play abroad, he said that he will gladly entertain it as well.

“Preferably it will be here but if there are other options outside, I’ll take that into consideration.”
