Legendary San Beda coach Badolato, 74, passes away

San Beda icon Edmundo “Ato” Badolato (December 30, 1946-December 19, 2021) has passed away on Sunday evening at the Philippine General Hospital due to heart failure.

He was 74 years old.

Badolato had just had angioplasty last week.

Prior to that, Badolato had been in and out of the hospital, mostly in UERM Memorial Medical Center as he had been experiencing some pains for the past year.

Badolato, a former volleyball player for San Beda, is viewed as the greatest juniors basketball head coach the country has ever produced.

He led the Red Cubs to 16 NCAA Juniors crowns before taking a full-time post in San Beda’s athletics department.

Badolato was also the founder of the Fr. Martin’s Cup and was a consultant in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup.
