Lady Eagles crush Lady Warriors days before Finals rematch

The Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles made short work of the lowly University of East Lady Warriors, sweeping the still winless squad 25-12, 25-10, 25-10 in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Warriors tried to shock the Lady Eagles with a few lineup changes, switching middle blocker Roselle Baliton to setter. But the Lady Warriors were still left helpless nonetheless as the Lady Eagles bombarded UE for double-digit leads in every set. The Lady Eagles were even able to play their entire lineup in their 24th straight UAAP win dating back to the Season 76 Finals.

“I hope coach is really happy because everyone on the team really contributed. Pati ‘yung second stringers na pinasok, they really played well,” said team captain Alyssa Valdez who managed 10 points in limited playing time.

Open hitter Jho Maraguinot led all scorers with 12 points while middle hitter Bea De Leon and Maddie Madayag pitched in eight and seven points respectively.

Ateneo delivered 41 spikes to UE’s eight and seven aces to UE’s one. Overall UE managed just 10 points off scoring skills.

Ateneo (6-0) has their much-anticipated Finals rematch against the DLSU Lady Spikers (4-1) on Saturday, 4 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. UE (0-6) takes on yhe Adamson Lady Falcons on 12:30 p.m. of the same day.
