Lady Chiefs disarm Lady Generals for maiden victory

Former NCAA Season 90 champions Arellano University Lady Chiefs bounced back big time as they demolished the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals in three sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-19, Wednesday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Chiefs lorded it over in attacks and service aces, getting 31 spikes and 12 aces in as opposed to EAC’s 15 and five, respectively.

With the first two sets going one-sided, Arellano head coach Obet Javier fielded in his second stringers in the final frame.

“Maganda naman yung [laro nila]. Kasi meron naman silang kanya-kanyang role eh,” he commented.

Jovielyn Prado paced the Chiefs with 12 points, eight coming from attacks. Erica Calixto chipped in eight markers, most of which kept the Legarda lady-based spikers ahead in the final set.

No Lady General scored in double figures. Returning setter Iona Yongco and two other Lady Pirates scored five markers each.

Despite the win, coach Javier believes that they have still a lot to improve on. He said, “Masarap manalo. Gagamitin namin to para mas pag-igihin pa lalo. Every game naman para sa Arellano, kaya ginagawa namin yung best namin.”

The Lady Chiefs look to notch their second win when they face Mapua on November 28, Monday at 10:00 am. Meanwhile, the Lady Generals battle JRU on November 25, Friday at 1:00 pm.
