Lady Blazers torch Lady Bombers for fourth straight


Reigning women’s volleyball champions De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers dispatched the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers in three convincing sets, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18, to claim their fourth consecutive victory in as many matches, Tuesday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Middle attacker Ranya Musa led the Lady Blazers with 22 points, 19 coming off attacks. Team skipper Jeanette Panaga pitched in 11 markers in just two sets of play.

Coach Macky Cariño was able to use all his players, with the other central hitter Chelsea Umali getting four points off the bench.

Cariño was pleased to see his wards finally showing what they can really do. He said, “Mas naging consistent yung team ko today, lalo na sa skills na wala kami before. Maganda yung pinakita ng bawat isa, maganda yung effort.”

The Blazers outworked the Bombers in all scoring skills, 38-22 on attacks, 7-1 on blocks, and 11-6 on service aces.

JRU team captain Shola Alvarez was the lone bright for her squad with 11 points.

The defending champions Lady Blazers (4-0) look for their fifth straight win when they face the LPU Lady Pirates (2-1) on Tuesday, December 6. The Lady Bombers (2-2), on the other hand, take on the league-leading San Beda Lady Red Spikers (3-0) the day before.
