Tankoua stands tall, crowned Player of the Week

Cameroonian student-athlete Donald Tankoua was named the ACCEL Quantum/3XVI-NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week after leading the San Beda Red Lions to two victories to join the Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals on top of the Seniors Basketball tournament of the 92nd season of the NCAA.

“For me he is the best [foreign student-athlete]. Big part of this [San Beda’s early run] is because of him. His rebounds and hustle,” said San Beda rookie transferee Robert Bolick on his teammate Tankoua.

Filling in the huge void left by Ola Adeogun, who has already exhausted his playing eligibility, Tankoua is delivering the goods for the Red Lions seeking nothing less than redemption this season.

In San Beda’s 91-76 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College last Tuesday, Tankoua pulled down 17 rebounds. The 6’5″ followed this up with a double-double effort of 17 points and 14 rebounds in the Red Lions’ dominant win against College of Saint Benilde.

Tankoua averaged 10.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for the week.

The Cameroonian center bested the following players for this week’s crown:
